THE SUNDAY CONCERT: Rhythm in Rotterdam

Marcus Miller at the North Sea Jazz Festival

The North Sea Jazz Festival is an annual festival held each second weekend of July in the Netherlands. It gathers some of the best of the best and some incredible young musicians. It used to be held in The Hague but since 2006 it has been held in Rotterdam Ahoy venue.

Marcus Miller has played with all of the greats, and his bands, very rhythmic and with a heavy accent on percussion, tend to bring forward some of the best young soloists around.

Miller gives them freedom to create and explore. The result is mesmerizing.

I hope you enjoy it.

Until next time.

THE SUNDAY CONCERT: Van Morrison

Not exactly Jazz, more a mixture of styles like blues, soul, jazz, and Irish music.

Must admit that I have always found him thoroughly enjoyable and somewhat of a genius in his right.

I thinks this concert fits in wonderfully well with a hot summer afternoon.

Enjoy!

Until next time!

THE SUNDAY CONCERT: Fourplay

A band that excels in the difficult art of always making smooth jazz constantly worthwhile and thoroughly enjoyable.

On a lazy Sunday, that may be what the Doctor ordered.

Enjoy!

Until next time!

THE SUNDAY CONCERT: Dancing at the Café

Jamiroquai – Live at the Jazz Café

I don´t have much else to say.

Since it´s first  appearance in 1992, Jay Kay´s band has been at the forefront of British (and London based) Funk/Acid Jazz movement.

His songs are catchy, funky, danceable, and just fun. And in this concert they sing “Seven days in Sunny June”, which I love.

Nothing else to add other than, I hope you enjoy it.

Until next time.

THE SUNDAY CONCERT: Just Dizzy

This is Jazz 625, a great British Jazz series that was as cool as they came, even though it was a spartan as they came.

Love the feeling of cultural importance they always gave these great musicians.

In this episode, it´s the great Dizzy Gillespie.

Enjoy!

Until next time!

THE SUNDAY CONCERT: Ray Charles

This week we move to Newport on a hot afternoon in 1960.

We get comfortable and relax, so we can watch this new guy making a lot of ways. Somebody told me his name is Ray Charles.

Let´s see what he can do…

Until next time!
