ALPERIN: AN ART FILLED MARCH

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

MARCH turned out to be a very busy month.

Finishing the last details of a new painting that had to go on exhibition on April 1st at Wine&Art in Buenos Aires, and then flying off to the US to fulfilled obligations that were a pleasure.

First with Hodges University in Naples, where I gave one of my creativity lecture to students, staff, and artistic souls from the Naples/Fort Myers area.

Then off to Shangri-La, the beautiful hotel in Bonita Springs. Fully organic, it is a peaceful environment where anyone can enjoy a full variety of relaxing activities and end the day with a wonderful meal cooked by Chef Pyro Rodriguez.

There, the Naples Art Association held one of their last “Dinner with Artists” events of the year,  and where I was generously invited by the NAA to be the guest artist.

Great experience and a beautiful painting came to life as a result.

Finally, off to Miami where I was also the guest of the artistic group “Los Embajadores del Arte” (The Art Ambassadors). A very active group of mostly Colombian artists, extremely talented all of them, and with a hunger for information.

As a guest of local artist Manena Elvira, I had the opportunity of giving a short lecture on the creative and artistic process.

Great month, and a great way to start a new year!

Until next time!

Ignacio

ALPERIN: Connecting dots at Hodges University

HODGES UNIVERSITY + CREATIVITY

This March I had the pleasure of receiving an invitation to give one of my Creativity Lectures at Hodges University, in the beautiful City of Naples, Florida.

Hodges is a relatively young University which is growing with giant steps.

Sponsored by the Naples Arts Association, and coordinated by Professors Aysegul Timur and William M. Gritz, we spent close to 2 hours exploring some basic (and not so basic concepts) of the creative process. From the neurological to the practical, we had a very interesting time with a varied audience which included University Staff and students, as well as writers, artists and sculptors from the Naples area.

Thank you to Professors Gritz and Timur, to the Executive Director of the NAA, Aimee Scheler, and to everyone involved for the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences.

It is striking to see how most people, no matter where they live and how different their cultures may be, looking for answers to the same issues and, more or less, in the same places. It is perhaps, as Bill Evans used to say, the Universal Mind of man that takes us all towards similar goals.

Until next time!

Ignacio

This week we move to Newport on a hot afternoon in 1960.

THE SUNDAY CONCERT: Quincy Jones

This week we move to Canada. We are at the Montreux Jazz Festival and it is the year 2008.

It is also a very special year. It is Quincy Jones 75th birthday. And to celebrate, Montreux put together a huge concert with the man of the hour himself right center in the front row, and giants from Herbie Hancock to James Moody, Al Jarreau and a cast too big to mention on stage.

So, on this second Sunday of 2017…let´s enjoy the concert, the music and simply celebrate a great career.

Until next time!

THE SUNDAY CONCERT: The (original) Blues Brothers in Concert

Happy New year everyone!!!!

A great New Year´s Sunday treat: John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd playing live in NYC on New Year´s eve, 1978.

From Wikipedia: The Blues Brothers are an American blues and soul revivalist band founded in 1978 by comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi as part of a musical sketch on Saturday Night Live. Belushi and Aykroyd, respectively in character as lead vocalist “Joliet” Jake Blues and harmonica player/vocalist Elwood Blues, fronted the band, which was composed of well-known and respected musicians. The band made its debut as the musical guest on the April 22, 1978, episode of Saturday Night Live.

Until next time.
