MOVING BACK THE CLOCK

ALPERIN: CITY BIKE (FROM 2008)

It was in the middle of 2007 that I started work on this painting.

For some reason (most probably the fact that bike lanes had been built in my city and bikes had started popping up where before you would only see trucks, cars, and buses) the theme caught my eye (there is a vastly different City Bike II as well that came after).

It is a crazy bike. Speedy, splashing, rushing in the middle of a late afternoon in a big town. And yet there is no one on it.

It just rides on its own. It´s a new urban dweller with a life, mind and purpose that is separate and free from whomever theoretically owns it.

It´s leaving everything behind, lonely, purposeful, and yet we don´t know where it´s going. From our point of view, it is just passing us by, as if saying:”sorry, I have somewhere to go, another place to be”.

Until next time!

Ignacio

THE SUNDAY CONCERT: Fourplay

A band that excels in the difficult art of always making smooth jazz constantly worthwhile and thoroughly enjoyable.

On a lazy Sunday, that may be what the Doctor ordered.

Enjoy!

THE SUNDAY CONCERT: Dancing at the Café

Jamiroquai – Live at the Jazz Café

I don´t have much else to say.

Since it´s first  appearance in 1992, Jay Kay´s band has been at the forefront of British (and London based) Funk/Acid Jazz movement.

His songs are catchy, funky, danceable, and just fun. And in this concert they sing “Seven days in Sunny June”, which I love.

Nothing else to add other than, I hope you enjoy it.

Until next time.

THE SUNDAY CONCERT: Just Dizzy

This is Jazz 625, a great British Jazz series that was as cool as they came, even though it was a spartan as they came.

Love the feeling of cultural importance they always gave these great musicians.

In this episode, it´s the great Dizzy Gillespie.

Enjoy!

Until next time!

ART AND CREATIVITY IN MANASSAS/PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VIRGINIA

Last April I had the pleasure of visiting the Center for the Arts of Greater Manassas and Prince William County, in the beautiful State of Virginia.

What was a 7 week exhibition ended with a short lecture on the creative process and a Jazz and Tango event in the evening.

It was a great pleasure to meet everyone and to enjoy such appreciation of the artistic process.

I want to thank everyone involved for their warmth and generosity. I hope to visit that beautiful town again soon and visit some more of the important historical sights surrounding this area of Virginia.

ALPERIN: AN ART FILLED MARCH

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

MARCH turned out to be a very busy month.

Finishing the last details of a new painting that had to go on exhibition on April 1st at Wine&Art in Buenos Aires, and then flying off to the US to fulfilled obligations that were a pleasure.

First with Hodges University in Naples, where I gave one of my creativity lecture to students, staff, and artistic souls from the Naples/Fort Myers area.

Then off to Shangri-La, the beautiful hotel in Bonita Springs. Fully organic, it is a peaceful environment where anyone can enjoy a full variety of relaxing activities and end the day with a wonderful meal cooked by Chef Pyro Rodriguez.

There, the Naples Art Association held one of their last “Dinner with Artists” events of the year,  and where I was generously invited by the NAA to be the guest artist.

Great experience and a beautiful painting came to life as a result.

Finally, off to Miami where I was also the guest of the artistic group “Los Embajadores del Arte” (The Art Ambassadors). A very active group of mostly Colombian artists, extremely talented all of them, and with a hunger for information.

As a guest of local artist Manena Elvira, I had the opportunity of giving a short lecture on the creative and artistic process.

Great month, and a great way to start a new year!

Until next time!

Ignacio

ALPERIN: Connecting dots at Hodges University

HODGES UNIVERSITY + CREATIVITY

This March I had the pleasure of receiving an invitation to give one of my Creativity Lectures at Hodges University, in the beautiful City of Naples, Florida.

Hodges is a relatively young University which is growing with giant steps.

Sponsored by the Naples Arts Association, and coordinated by Professors Aysegul Timur and William M. Gritz, we spent close to 2 hours exploring some basic (and not so basic concepts) of the creative process. From the neurological to the practical, we had a very interesting time with a varied audience which included University Staff and students, as well as writers, artists and sculptors from the Naples area.

Thank you to Professors Gritz and Timur, to the Executive Director of the NAA, Aimee Scheler, and to everyone involved for the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences.

It is striking to see how most people, no matter where they live and how different their cultures may be, looking for answers to the same issues and, more or less, in the same places. It is perhaps, as Bill Evans used to say, the Universal Mind of man that takes us all towards similar goals.

Until next time!

Ignacio
